The Chestnut Brothers
“The Chestnut Brothers”, Al and Ty, are a very talented singing, songwriting, production team. Born in Columbia, South Carolina and raised in Philadelphia, PA., they have entertained audiences in major U.S. cities, and throughout the United Kingdom, Europe and the Middle East. Aside from collaborating with Grover Washington, Jr. on one of their own projects (Whole Lotta’ You In Me), they’ve appeared on projects with Luther Vandross (Love The One You’re With remix) and Najee (Groovin’ album with Missing Links).
Since becoming actively involved with the international peace movement, they have attained a passion for social change. This can be heard in several of their original songs; especially their theme, “Stop the Violence.” Due to the positive content of their music, their songs have been adopted by such civic organizations as God’s Pod Outreach Ministries, SCLC, MLK Institute for Non - Violence, National Victory Over Violence Campaign, National Union Of The Homeless; CANAAN Kid’s, ROOT, Inc., Philadelphia Mayor & Police Department (OPERATION: Safe Streets), Men United For A Better Philadelphia, House Of Umoja, SOA Watch, Children’s Crisis Treatment Center, Mother’s United Through Tragedy, Mother’s In Charge, Atlanta Cares, the Million MOM March, Community Leadership Training Institute, Hands On Atlanta, Project S.O.A.R., PRO ACT and the Ozziddi Project.
Their commitment to community service has been duly honored by being chosen as recipients of a plethora of prestigious awards. Including American Cities Foundation’s “2003 Men Making A Difference Award” and the Project S.O.A.R “2007 Freedom Fighters for Social Change Award.”
In addition to being “Musical Messengers,” many of their popular songs are loved by audiences for their dance and romantic appeal.
